A Little Bit About Me
It is true to say acupuncture really is in my blood as my great grandfather, Zhaoren Kong was a well-respected Doctor in Traditional Chinese Medicine and I remember the large number of people who would travel many, many miles to find him so he could help improve their health. In particular, I remember one couple who had previously believed they couldn’t have any children, being overjoyed that as a result of his treatment they were able to have a healthy baby boy.
As a young girl, I used to marvel at his ability to help people and knowledge as to how the body worked, so by the insertion of some fine needles or the application of one of the other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine that he could improve the quality of the lives of the people who would travel to his clinic and hoped that one day I could follow in his footsteps.
I certainly knew that I was destined for a life of medicine and after taking National Higher Education Entrance Exam (Gao Kao), I initially studied Western Medicine specialising in Cardiology as a specialist Nurse and later qualified as a Dr level in Western Medicine within China.
In 2002 I decided to come to England as I was keen to improve my English and discover more about the way of life here in the UK. I must admit I was excited when I discovered the internationally renown, ‘College of Chinese Integrated Chinese Medicine,’ based in Reading where they taught B.Sc in Integrated Chinese Medicine.
I knew this was my opportunity to finally follow in my great grandfather’s footsteps. It certainly was a rigorous degree involving over 3,500 hours of study ensuring the highest levels of competence and in the third year, I treated patients under supervision to make sure I didn’t just have a theoretical knowledge of how Chinese Medicine could improve my patient’s health.
Having experienced both Chinese and Western Medicine I must admit I prefer the additional time I spend with each patient. Which enables me to more fully discover all the issues which may be affecting their health and helps me to deliver the best outcome for them.
Hopefully, you will now let me see how I can help you!
My Great Grandfather, Zhaoren Kong on his 80th birthday.
